Yes you are certainly charging way too little. My basic sites start at $500 and go up from there depending on what the client wants. Usually I charge it by the job and in some cases, there will be add on's and I usually charge $50-$75 per hour for that work. I have a few NPO's and for them I start my quotes to them at $300 for the job.

From the sounds of this guy you're dealing with, I would just move on and forget him. Finish whatever you've started and end it there.

a conversation i just had with a mac specialist.

You are chatting with Scott C, an Apple Expert
scott- Hi, my name is Scott C. How may I help you today?
me- im just checking out this new applestore online feature
    me- its pretty cool
    scott- Good morning
me- can i pre-order my iPhone here when it comes out in january?
me- how much is that going to run, i want to order that now.
scott- I am not familiar with the iPhone.
    me- oh
me- you are not familiar with it?
me- well i was going to wait for it to come out so i could buy it and use it as my phone
scott- I am unaware of any future or unreleased products.
me- but since you are unfamiliar with it, im going to go buy a microsoft windows phone and lock myself into a 2 year contract in which i will be unable to purchase any other phone
i wont be buying the iPhone. :(
i thought it was coming out soon
but since you are unaware, im going to have to get myself an HP iPaq
scott- There are rumors posted online about it, but I am unaware of any factual information about it.
    me- oh
me- i heard about it on TV though
me- im one of those people who believes everything they see on TV, not really... but i was quite taken by the iphone they showed on TV and i was going to wait because i know Apple releases the highest quality products i know of. buying the phone they made was going to be my next tech purchase
but now i am going to go get a $400 HP iPaq and lock myself into it for 2 years
scott- Well, it might be worth it to wait and see if Apple does release one then.
    me- oooookkkk
    me- thank you
scott- Thank you for visiting the Apple Store. We appreciate your business.
    me- thank you for chatting
A convesation that bboyredcel had with himself.

bboyredcel- Hi, I'm a stupid moron and I want to show people that I think I'm really cute.

himself- Let's pretend you, bboyredcel, call Apple and ask them about the iPhone.

bboyredcel- Yeah and I, bboyredcel, can pretend that I know more than the Apple Expert.

himself- You could then threaten to purchase a competitor's product.

bboyredcel- Yeah, I bet that would really upset him.

himself- And while you're at it you can show the world or at least those who read this page, how stupid you really are.

    bboyredcel- What.

himself- Well, everyone who reads MacRumors should know how Apple operates by now. You might as well be calling Apple about a rumored iPizzaMaker or something.

bboyredcel- Really Apple is working on an iPizzaMaker.

himself- God, I wish someone would just lobotomize me!

Its also law. They are legally not allowed to refuse a manufacturers warranty based on which shop you bought it from (At least in the UK - it would be mind numbingly idiotic of any government to allow them to refuse it).
In the UK, you are contracted to the retailer you bought it from. They are responsible for the product for six years. We have good laws in place to protect the consumer. I find it hard to understand why people never use their rights under laws such as the Sales of Goods Act.

A warranty is an insurance policy. Apple Care in the UK is not a policy from Apple, but a third party insurance company that they are contracted with. Can't remember the name of the company.

Apple are pretty good at repairing out of guarantee/Apple Care products, even when these times have lapsed. Had a power supply and logic board in my 4 year old iMac replaced for free. Sales of Goods Act is your best friend. :)

Yeah I know Apple's policy on low pricing to sell hardware and I think it's brilliant. I don't know why they drop the software after a while though, discontinuing Shake didn't make any sense.

I'm going to speculate about what happened. When Jobs brought Pixar to Disney and joined their board of directors, he was thinking that would be a good fit for the Macpro line of computers and software. It probably bothered him that Pixar (and Disney) were not using Apple computers and software to crunch all of those pixels. I'm pretty sure he saw that as an opportunity to get Apple further into that market.

Then along comes the success of iPhone and consumer level products that began to consume most of Apple resources. It was a fairly fresh market with much potential for massive profits. Shortly after that, Apple Computer changed it's name to just "Apple" and then diverted most of it's attention towards the market that we see today. Apple sold off any professional applications that they deemed to niche or required extensive resources to develop. I'm sure they hung onto FCS simply because there was some profit, and to feed Steve's ego. However, they haven't been that motivated to keep it on the forefront because they didn't have the resources, nor the motivation.

I'm pretty sure that if you were to ask most of the people on the board of directors at Apple if they should keep the professional line, I'm sure that most of them would say no. The money is not in that sector compared to consumer devices and content delivery. As each day goes by, the Mac professional line of computers and software are becoming more and more a niche product and I think that Apple will eventually discontinue them and become solely a consumer product company. They will make devices for the everyday consumer and sell/rent/commission content to deliver to those devices. It's a multi-billion dollar industry that is only going to get bigger. The professional line is not close to being as profitable and it takes a lot of resources to stay current. My guess is that it will be phased out over the next 5 years. How? By slowing down the updates until the pros migrate to other systems. Eventually, Apple will declare the market dead and stop production. By then, no one will care. But don't worry, you'll have a really cool iPhone and still be able to buy an iMac.

You may not have been but I was perfectly able to make adult decisions about my life before I was 18years old.
At 18 the law recognised that I should be capable of behaving like an adult. It is the job of parents (and society) to make sure that there children are ready to be adults by 18years, which means they should've been preparing them for these sort of decisions for years. A parent shouldn't treat a son like a child until they're 18years and then from their 18th birthday treat them as an adult.

Except if you want to have a drink!

    But right you are.

As an early teen I was in the room next to mine and had to endure a night of their role-playing passion. (Theyre normally quite straight laced).

Then a couple of years later when I was maybe 16/17years old I walked in on them at around 11pm in the living room. Mum sat in the arm-chair with a leg over each arm and Dad kneeling going down on her.

    ***shudders***

Embarrassed? Yes, all of us. Disgusted? No, couldnt see a reason to be. Ever sat in that chair again? No ***king way! Eww.

I am still thinking that I was found under a cabbage leaf here. :D

It is hard for me to imagine my parents having sex. Though I find comfort in that my parents sent i=us to relative in our pre-teen and teen years, so they might have had some "fun".

In the UK, under its purely municipal law, there is a presumption that retail price management agreements are against the public interest, and therefore unenforceable. The law does, however, provide for the presumption to be overcome by evidence to the contrary, and in the case of publishers and booksellers, vertical retail price management has been held enforceable. The UK is, of course, a member of the European Union which takes a stronger stand against retail price management, and pursuant to the articles of the European Commission, it is their standards that apply to covered cross-border transactions.

In the U.S., there have been swings back and forth through much of the 20th century, but current Federal law (since 2007) applies the "Rule of Reason" to retail price management arrangements, and a retail pricing scheme will be enforced if it is not anti-competitive. The Supreme Court recognized that competition often is enhanced by matters other than price (after-sale support, strong warranty, etc.), and it may well be reasonable to require a minimum price to support an overall more competitive position.

Those who find the public policy aspects of this question interesting may wish to read the now definitive opinion of the U.S. Supreme Court, http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/06pdf/06-480.pdf

Hi, I've made an app which is basically a pdf viewer with a quiz attached.

My menus are all the simple text ones, I'm wondering what's the easiest way to change these to image based menus so it looks more appealing?

    Thanks!

Okay, but you're claiming double that. Not 10% more or 20% more - double.

I once achieved similar fuel consumption to his Altima, but it was being towed for most of it.
