My first computer had a tape drive. A Commodore Vic 20. I wonder how long a cassette tape needs to be to hold a TB not to mention a PB?

For the record, it's really easy to access the file. Didn't even need the phone, the file is on your computer. The iPhone Tracker software finds the file for you. Literally took me 2 minutes to do.

Can't wait to get 2 minutes alone with my EX's computer! -kidding, I could care less, but you get the idea.

This is great. I like the addition of European blood into the Moderator folk to help with additional time zones.
Nermal might be a bit offended by that. ;)

I just got a 2.8 i7 Quad Core iMac, and I wouldn't mind helping out if someone would outline the steps for me. I already installed seti@home, but the application is only using one core, which really bugs me. I wont be able to dedicate my machine 24/7, but on the down time, or when I leave the room I wouldn't mind leaving it on.

thanks! your iMac should fold nicely. start here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=21908) at our own folding FAQ.

basically, there are 2 types of folding clients: a console (terminal) and one that runs in system preferences. most people here run the console client, mainly b/c you have more control.

are you familiar with running things in terminal? if so, all you do is download the client, extract it, move into that folder, and start the script with some options. here would be an example for you:

fah -smp 8 -advmethods -verbosity 9 -local

and you can stop that when you want by typing control+c.

please let us know if you have any other questions

If I get the new iPod Shuffle 2G with old headphones, i'm sending it right back. That is one of the reasons I bought the Shuffle. Instead of spending $29 for some headphones I spent $50 dollars more and got a shuffle...:(

Why not? The USA for example has only 4 million miles of roads. A car with driver + passenger + some decent equipment should be able to map say 10 miles per hour, at a cost of $50 per hour.

That's exactly what OpenStreetMap does. I know that it isn't widely used within the US (as most American hate OpenSource because it hurts the industry, see Firefox for instance: 70% marketshare in Europe, almost none in the US) but for example in some countries and parts of Europe OSM is much better than Nateq or Teleatlas maps as OSM users basically track *everything*, even the smallest trails which is just great for hiking or mountainbiking.

It doesn't sound like all that much, Apple has a possible 100 million customers if MobileMe becomes free to use as backup. That is about 120 MB per user, pathetic. How much does Amazon have at the moment?

That is raw data space so no redundancy but also not compressed, i think raw data = usable data.

Post some screenshots of some new features/easter eggs from Mac OSX Lion here!

My DP has been screwing around with Safari and for some reason I can't attach any of my screenshots, so I can't put any up yet.

The CSS3 resizer property is fine and good because you can set resizer:none to a form element if you want to. As a side note, resizer applies to all elements, including html, meaning a site could prevent you from resizing the browser window. That has the potential to be very annoying if abused, as I'm sure it will be. Right now, I don't think any of the main 5 or 6 browsers support this propery for any element.

What worries me is if Safari is implementing this feature using built-in DOM functions instead of just supporting the CSS3 property. This is a possibility to me. They've got quite a ways to go in terms of the standard right now.

no, it's CSS3 download the nightly then visit this site. http://www.css3.info/preview/resize.html

I could use the Volt right about now......

The only electric cars I would consider are the Tesla and Fisker Karma. Personally, mpg does not enter my train of thought when purchasing a car. And it MUST growl when on the throttle ;-)

Stop with the FUD already. Businesses operating in the EU cannot do this. Just because corporations in the USA can, doesn't mean the rest of the world is the same...

So..Seriously why do you care then. Not one single publisher cares at all about the 30% that is a pretty standard affiliate cut in for news publishers and exactly what WSJ pays on it's lowest tier, it goes up from there for high volume affiliates.

Do you have any proof that FT actually does sell email addresses?

Just because businesses wants your email doesn't equate to they'll sell your details...

Other then the guy saying it hurts their business model not to have all my personal info no.

How hard is it to uncheck these two boxes?
    http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/6509/onek.png

And other publications, like The Economist, already come with the equivalent boxes unchecked by default.

The Economist is ok with selling in subscriptions..
Apple needs to learn to work with publishers.

I spend about a third of my daily iPad time reading the FT every morning. If the app gets pulled or no longer works (because Apple insists on getting their cut of my annual subscription), I will make the very easy decision to get an Android tablet next.

Same goes for my Economist and WSJ apps. Combined, I probably spend 75% of my time on my iPad reading these publications. Take them away, and I'm gone.

My loyalty is to the publisher and the quality of their material. It is NOT to Apple. And one less iPad owner also means one less App store and/or iTunes customer.

Apple should tread very lightly here.

Maybe you should tell publishers you are ok with them not requiring your personal information..

If he lived in my house, I'd say yes, with all the appropriate precautions, but I would have a talk to him about his attitude. It could be a symptom of a much greater problem.

I have a refurbished iPhone 4, 32 GB, I bought from at&t. It is in great shape, and was likely a return with in the 30 day window. I found out that if you buy a refurbished phone from Apple, the warranty resets to when you buy it, but if you buy it from at&t is is based of the original date of sale.

So does that mean you would let him sleep over or not? ;)

As a parent, I would take the responsibility for my son and not let him sleep over. Especially if I knew they were sleeping together. If he felt he was adult enough to make his own decisions then clearly he is adult enough to get his own place and live under his own rules. After all is that not the role of a parent (aka adult), to teach values? It might come in useful for the guy if he gets her pregnant.

Depends if you use "Turbo Loader" or anything similar or not ... How long would it take to rewind a tape like that?
