I don't really care about the Apple TV - its not something I see myself using at this point.
I like the iPhone, though I think its a tad pricey, but I wouldn't be in the market for one before early next year, anyway. I might consider getting one at that point.
I was disappointed that there was nothing for the Mac! I wanted to see iLife and iWork '07 and more importantly, hear/see some information about Leopard!

All this stuff about "living under mum and dad's roof" is all well and good but it's not gonna work.
The guy is 18 and therefore you have no say in it. If you want to show him you trust him, make sure he is having safe sex (ask him "are you using a condom" - don't beat around the bush, it's sex, it's not anything to be ashamed of) and send him on his merry way.
It's time to let him make his own mistakes and decisions and the best thing you can do is to love and support him through it all. I was a good teenager, same sort of thing as your son - good grades (not that these mean you're a good person), nice friends, stable ideals but I found the sudden leap into adulthood one of the hardest things to do because I was suddenly in charge of my own life. My parents - though they vehemently opposed some of my decisions - supported me through them no matter what and that helped me to realise for myself my own interpretations of right and wrong and allowed me to grow as a person.
So don't treat him any differently, just make sure he knows the facts and is not doing anything unsafe, and let him go. There's no reason you can''t voice your disapproval but make sure he knows that this is his call and that you love him no matter what.

When oh when are they going to update that insanely arcane iCal "feature" on .Mac. Why isn't it easy to access my calendars from my .Mac homepage? And WHY can't I ADD an event from .Mac. So frustrating.
Amen on that. It's frustrating that a lot of .mac has been ignored for the past few years. It seemed like that service was improved more often back when it was free. I don't get it.

The biggest problem I see with SS is that it's an unsustainable Ponzi Scheme which requires constant growth in population in order to sustain costs incurred by smaller and smaller groups of people.
This is why you are wrong:
Nonetheless, some critics are attempting to undermine confidence in Social Security with wild and blatantly false accusations. They allege that the trust funds have been raided or disparage the trust funds as funny money or mere IOUs. Some even label Social Security a Ponzi scheme after the notorious 1920s swindler Charles Ponzi. All of these claims are nonsense.
Every year since 1984, Social Security has collected more in payroll taxes and other income than it pays in benefits and other expenses. (The authors of the 1983 Social Security reform law did this on purpose in order to help pre-fund some of the costs of the baby boomers retirement.) These surpluses are invested in U.S. Treasury securities that are every bit as sound as the U.S. government securities held by investors around the globe; investors regard these securities as among the worlds very safest investments.
Investing the trust funds in Treasury securities is perfectly appropriate. The federal government borrows funds from Social Security to help finance its ongoing operations in the same way that consumers and businesses borrow money deposited in a bank to finance their spending. In neither case does this represent a raid on the funds. The bank depositor will get his or her money back when needed, and so will the Social Security trust funds.
As far back as 1938, independent advisors to Social Security firmly endorsed the investment of Social Security surpluses in Treasury securities, saying that it does not involve any misuse of these moneys or endanger the safety of these funds.
Moreover, Social Security is the polar opposite of a Ponzi scheme, says the man who quite literally wrote the book about Ponzis famous scam, Boston University professor Mitchell Zuckoff. The Social Security Administrations historian has a piece on this topic as well.
Unlike the frauds of Ponzi and, more recently, Bernard Madoff Social Security does not promise unrealistically large financial returns and does not require unsustainable increases in the number of participants to remain solvent. Instead, for the past 75 years it has provided a foundation that workers can build on for retirement as well as social insurance protection to families whose breadwinner dies and workers who become disabled.

I know in 10.4 you can enable the machine as an xgrid client. Can you run the server portion in 10.4 or do you have to have the 10.4 server?
According to this macosxhints article (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050610040807931) you can with a bit of tweaking and some free apple server app downloads.

I wonder if Serlett's departure means more web focus since the new guy focused on the cloud? A new filesystem, being able to run web apps outside the browser, and a new UI would be nice for OSX an internet layer built in using webkit (if that is possible) would be 3 nice new features, and with the new guy Ferengi or Fedenrigh or whatever it could be possible?
Craig was the main man behind Enterprise Object Frameworks 2.0 at NeXT. The Cloud has nothing to do with this succession. Craig is just the perfect person to take Bertrand's position. Bertrand will be missed and they couldn't have given the role to a more deserving person.

I miss 4.2.1, it was really stable for me :(
I'm on 4.2.1, but because I have an iPhone 3, I guess I'm at the end of getting updates from Apple. Is this true, just wondering.
Thanks.

11...21...31...whatever the age ones mode of attire is not an invitation or deterrent to rape. I swear some of the characters are straight out of "The Handmaid's Tale".
Sorry but you need to come out of your fantasy world.
Is rape wrong? Yes.
Is dressing provocatively stupid? Yes.
If i was walking down an alley in the middle of the night and if i was stabbed, then sure the suspect would be in trouble, but i would be the idiot for walking down that alley at night.

Why does it take a media storm for Apple to open up on an issue ? It would be so much better if they more forthcoming and frank before an issue snowballs.
maybe because, often, it's not even an issue ... until the media makes it an issue.

ok. its now running from a 320Gb sata drive!
I left carbon copy cloner running all night to make the bootable copy.
I was a little bit worried about leaving all night as I could not watch the temps. I guess I'm just a bit worried I may have screwed up the thermal paste. But no, it survived showing 52deg when I checked this morning.
Especially because it's a file server you should be running Nap on it. Someone around the PowerPC forum here posted a link to CHUD 3.5.2 which is what you need for Nap to work on an MDD. I forget exactly which thread though. Your idle temps will be in the low 40's then.
When I used to have a dual 1.42 and dual 867 MDD I ran nap on both and also rigged a second 120mm fan on the back of the case. With the extra 120 on the back the same 867 model you have was down in the high 30's when idle and never higher than maybe 48C even under heavy load for hours. Used only as a file server though the CPU's will almost always be idle. Even a single 350MHz G4 would be plenty of power for a file server.
So to sum up.. using nap will help keep the CPU's even cooler than cool and give them many more years of life to power your file access.
